Bricks & Lime - Castle Espie Jar

£80.00

Each vessel is wheel-thrown in terracotta clay, its surface washed with a lime-like glaze—an echo of the brick and lime once produced at WWT Castle Espie, where Tracey is presently resident artist.

Over 150 years ago, Strangford Lough’s shoreline pulsed with industry. Two hundred men, women, and children worked the coal fired kilns, shaping bricks, pipes, tiles, and pottery—crafting the bones of a growing world.

Today, the land has been reclaimed by the  Lough. Restored and protected by the Wildfowl & Wetlands Trust, it is now a sanctuary of international importance, home to eelgrass beds and a rich diversity of wildfowl and waders. Yet the memory of that labour endures—quiet, resilient, and deeply rooted.

Each jar is a tactile tribute to the spirit of this place, and to the enduring power of craft, memory, and transformation.
